Key Aspects

We have carefully considered several important factors in the development of this proposal, and are working with expert consultants to address these key issues.

Key aspects of the proposal include:

Transport

The access onto Alcester Road will be designed to provide safe access for all users. Pedestrian and cycleways will connect into the existing route on Alcester Road, and the County Council are also planning improvements to this route for cyclists. The proximity of the town centre and nearby schools and facilities would give residents the option to walk or cycle for trips to school or work. The impact of additional vehicles from the development on existing junctions will be assessed as part of the application.

Ecology

Surveys have been undertaken of the site to understand its value for wildlife.

The trees and hedgerows on the boundaries will be retained as part of the development, ensuring no loss of bird nesting sites. The creation of an access will require some removal but this will be compensated for by planting within the site.

The proposed green space will include space to create new habitats for wildlife and improve the area’s overall ecological value.

Drainage

The Site is located in Flood Zone 1, which means that it is at low risk of flooding from rivers or watercourses and can be considered suitable for new residential development.

The new development will manage rain water collected from new roads and houses by directing flows to a new open flood storage feature on the south side of the development. Surface water may be treated on-site via the use of various Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) measures, which could include permeable paving or filter drains to hard paved areas.

The storage basin will retain excess surface water on site, in order to control its rate of release downstream toward the River Avon. Those restricted flows will discharge via gravity to the watercourse along the eastern boundary of the Site at a controlled rate. The basin has been sized to also take into account the ever increasing effects of climate change and the heavier rainfalls that are predicted for the decades to come. It will have permanently wet areas as well as drier margins to allow it to be landscaped and planted in such a way that enhances biodiversity and promotes habitat creation.

In addition to these considerations, Orbit Homes is committed to sustainability. We are proud to partner with the Wildlife Trusts to create spaces that support local biodiversity. Through our work with the 30 by 30 initiative, we aim to help protect and restore at least 30% of the UK’s land for nature by 2030.
